One ingredient and suddenly I'm eight years old again. Pour cold full-sugar grape soda into the Ninja Slushi, run SLUSH, and the Grape Soda Slush comes out purple and frozen and tasting exactly like the Faygo my uncle used to keep in his cooler. My daughter's whole mouth went purple and she could not have been happier about it. Has to be full-sugar grape soda. Diet doesn't have the sugar to freeze and you'll just be standing there waiting on a soup that never sets. Trust me, I waited.

Ingredients
- Cold Grape Soda (Full Sugar)48 oz
- Fresh Lemon Juiceoptional1 tbsp
Makes ~50 oz
Directions
- 1Let the grape soda go slightly flat, then stir gently.
- 2Add a little lemon juice to keep the sweetness balanced.
- 3Pour the soda straight into the Slushi vessel, no ice.
- 4Close the lid and run the SLUSH preset.
- 5Let it thicken into a purple slush, about 28 minutes.
- 6Dispense into a chilled glass and enjoy.
Tips
- Pour your grape soda straight from the fridge into the Slushi bowl so it's already cold when the machine starts churning
- Check the slush after about 30 minutes, not the full hour, since soda freezes faster than thicker liquids
- Stop the machine and scoop when the mixture looks like crushed ice suspended in grape liquid, not when it's fully solid
Variations
- Use diet or zero sugar grape soda if you want fewer calories, though the slush may be slightly less thick
- Mix in a splash of lemon juice before pouring to brighten the grape flavor and cut sweetness
- Try grape juice cocktail as a substitute if you don't have soda on hand, though it will churn a bit slower
FAQ
- Can I use warm soda or soda straight from the pantry?
- No, warm or room temperature soda will take much longer to slush, sometimes 60-90 minutes or longer. Start with cold soda from the fridge for best results.
- Why didn't my soda turn into slush after 45 minutes?
- Check that the Slushi bowl is seated properly in the machine and that it's plugged in and running. Also make sure your soda was cold when you poured it in. If the machine is running and everything is connected, give it another 15-20 minutes.
- Can I add vodka or alcohol to make a slush cocktail?
- Yes, but pour less soda and add alcohol in small amounts since it freezes at a different temperature than soda, which may slow down the slush process. Start with one part alcohol to five parts soda and adjust to taste.
- How long does homemade grape slush keep in the freezer?
- Once scooped into a container, it stays slushy for 1-2 hours at room temperature or stays frozen in the freezer for up to a week if covered. Scoop it back into the Slushi bowl and run it again if it hardens.
