Anyone who grew up on those sour green apple candies knows the exact pucker I was chasing here. Cold green apple juice with a good hit of fresh lime, run on FROZEN_JUICE in the Ninja Slushi, and the Green Apple Sour Slush comes out that bright Jolly-Rancher green with a real sour kick. My wife took a sip, made the lemon-face, and immediately took another. The lime is doing all the heavy lifting, so don't go light on it. Without enough lime it's just sweet apple juice that happens to be frozen.

Ingredients
- Cold Green Apple Juice44 oz
- Fresh Lime Juice2 tbsp
- Simple Syrupoptional2 oz
Makes ~50 oz
Directions
- 1Pour the green apple juice into a pitcher.
- 2Stir in the lime juice for a puckering sour note, plus simple syrup if needed.
- 3Fill the Slushi vessel with the juice below the max line.
- 4Lock the lid and start the FROZEN JUICE preset.
- 5Run it until smooth and icy, about 30 minutes.
- 6Dispense and serve immediately for a tart treat.
Tips
- Pour your green apple juice and lime juice directly into the Slushi bowl at room temperature, don't chill it beforehand, since the machine does the freezing work.
- Check the consistency around the 30-minute mark by looking through the viewing window, then give it a few more minutes if it's still slushy rather than icy.
- If your slush turns rock-hard and won't dispense, run warm water through the tap for 10-15 seconds to loosen it up without removing the bowl.
Variations
- Swap half the green apple juice for ginger ale to add fizz and spice to the drink.
- Mix in a splash of white rum or vodka before pouring into the bowl for an adult version, keeping the lime juice as your main sour note.
- Use fresh-squeezed green apple juice instead of bottled for a brighter, less processed flavor that freezes just as smoothly.
FAQ
- Can I use bottled lime juice instead of fresh?
- Yes, bottled lime juice works fine and will freeze normally in the Slushi. Fresh lime juice tastes brighter, but bottled is convenient and reliable.
- Why isn't my slush getting thick enough after 45 minutes?
- Check that your juice isn't too warm when you pour it in, and make sure the Slushi bowl is sitting flat and level in the machine. If the bowl isn't making contact properly, the liquid won't freeze as it churns.
- How long can I keep the slush in the machine after it's done?
- The Slushi will keep the slush cold for several hours, but texture gets icier the longer it sits. Best served within 1-2 hours of reaching your desired consistency.
- Can I make a lighter, less sweet version?
- Absolutely, reduce the apple juice and add plain water or unsweetened sparkling water to cut the sweetness while keeping plenty of lime juice for tartness.
