Frozen Bushwacker

First time I had a Frozen Bushwacker was on a beach trip down south, so recreating it as a Frozen Bushwacker in the Ninja Slushi felt like cheating the system (21+, this one's no joke). Bushwacker mix, vanilla soft serve mix, dark rum and Kahlua on MILKSHAKE, and it comes out thick and creamy like a boozy chocolate milkshake that bites back. My wife said it tasted exactly like the beach bar, then reminded me there were two kinds of rum in it. Tip: keep the water minimal so it stays scoopable and rich. Sip slow, the milkshake texture hides how strong it is.

  • Margarita Man Soft Serve Vanilla Mix9 oz
  • Water35 oz
  • Dark Rum8 oz
  • Kahlua3 oz

Makes ~64 oz Β· est. 5.9% ABV

Directions

  1. 1Combine the Bushwacker mix, Soft Serve Vanilla mix, cold water, dark rum, and Kahlua in a large pitcher.
  2. 2Whisk thoroughly until the concentrated mixes are fully integrated with the water and spirits.
  3. 3Pour the mixed liquid into the Slushi container.
  4. 4Select the MILKSHAKE preset to ensure cream stability, and let the machine run.
  5. 5After 45 minutes, dispense the frozen cocktail into glasses.
  6. 6Garnish with whipped cream, a cocktail cherry, and a sprinkle of shaved dark chocolate.

Tips

  • Pour your liquid base at the correct ratio, roughly one part mix to two parts water, so the machine can churn it properly without freezing solid or staying too thin.
  • Wait the full 20-60 minutes without opening the lid, as the continuous churning and scraping need uninterrupted time to build the right slushy texture.
  • Scoop from the tap slowly and let gravity do the work, which keeps the slush from clumping and gives you the smooth texture you want.

Variations

  • Swap the dark rum for spiced rum if you prefer a warmer, more aromatic kick to the vanilla and coffee notes.
  • Use half the Kahlua and add 2 ounces of coconut rum for a lighter, tropical take that still keeps the coffee flavor.
  • Reduce the water slightly and add an extra ounce of dark rum for a stronger, more spirit-forward version.

FAQ

Can I use less rum or skip it entirely?
Yes, you can reduce the rum or leave it out completely, but the base will need to stay roughly the same total liquid volume so the machine churns properly. The drink will taste noticeably less complex without it.
What if my slush came out too thin or icy?
Thin slush usually means the ratio of mix to water was off, too much water or not enough mix. If it froze solid, the opposite happened, too much mix or not enough liquid. Check your measurements against the recipe and try again.
Can I make this ahead and store it?
The slush is best served right after it comes out of the machine. If you need to store it, cover it and keep it in the freezer for no more than a few hours, then let it sit at room temperature for a minute or two before scooping.
Why does the texture matter so much for this drink?
The Ninja Slushi works by constant churning and scraping, not blending, so the right liquid ratio and wait time are what create that signature frosty slush texture. Too much or too little liquid changes how the machine can work.
