Tropical Blue Hawaiian

Cracked this Tropical Blue Hawaiian out at a pool day and it turned everyone into a tourist instantly (grown-ups only). The Margarita Man Blue Hawaiian mix plus light rum on SPIKED SLUSH gives you that electric-blue, coconut-pineapple thing that tastes like a beach bar without the airfare. My buddy held his up to the sun and said it looked radioactive, then asked for the recipe. It comes out frosty and smooth, not icy. Tip: stick to the mix-to-water ratio on the bottle, too much water and it won't freeze into proper slush. Float a pineapple wedge on top and drink responsibly.

- Water46 oz
- Light Rum9 oz
Makes ~64 oz Β· est. 5.6% ABV
Directions
- 1In a large pitcher, combine the concentrated Blue Hawaiian drink mix and the cold water.
- 2Add the light white rum and stir with a whisk until a uniform color is achieved.
- 3Pour the prepared blue cocktail mixture into the Slushi vessel.
- 4Select the SPIKED SLUSH setting and allow the machine to run for 45 minutes.
- 5Dispense into glasses and optionally garnish with a pineapple wedge and a cocktail umbrella.
Tips
- Pour your liquid base into the Slushi bowl at room temperature and let the machine do the work for 20-60 minutes, depending on your freezer's temperature and desired slush thickness.
- Check the consistency every 15 minutes or so by looking through the bowl window, then tap out a small sample to test the texture before serving.
- Use chilled glasses if you want your drink to stay slushy longer after dispensing, since the drink warms up once it leaves the machine.
Variations
- Swap the light rum for dark spiced rum for a deeper, more caramel-forward tropical flavor that still works with the blue Hawaiian mix.
- Add 2-3 ounces of coconut cream to the liquid base before pouring into the bowl for a richer, creamier slush texture.
- Replace half the water with pineapple juice to boost the tropical sweetness and add natural fruit flavor without changing the blue color much.
FAQ
- Can I use the Slushi machine without rum to make a non-alcoholic version?
- Yes, absolutely. Just pour the blue Hawaiian mix and water into the bowl and let it churn until slushy, same timing as the regular recipe. It'll taste just like a frozen Hawaiian punch.
- What if my slush won't freeze or stays too liquidy after an hour?
- Your freezer might be warmer than ideal, so give it more time or check that the bowl is properly seated in the machine. If the mix is too diluted, use less water next time.
- Can I make this ahead and store it in the freezer?
- The Slushi machine is best used fresh when you're ready to drink, but you can keep the liquid base in the fridge for a few days and pour it into the machine when guests arrive.
- Is light rum necessary, or can I use a different spirit?
- Light rum is traditional and mixes cleanly with the blue Hawaiian flavor, but vodka works too if you prefer a cleaner taste without rum's vanilla notes.
