Last Fourth of July I needed something cold and a little dangerous for the adults, so I threw together a Frozen Mango Rum Twist and let the Ninja Slushi do its thing for about 40 minutes. Mango puree, white rum, pineapple juice, a splash of simple syrup, pour it in and walk away. It comes out scoopable and slushy, not icy, honestly tastes like a poolside drink a resort would charge fourteen dollars for. My buddy Dave had two cups and immediately started planning a trip to Cancun. Practical tip: go light on the rum or it won't slush up properly, alcohol fights freezing hard.

Ingredients
- Mango Puree24 oz
- White Rum8 oz
- Pineapple Juice16 oz
- Simple Syrup8 oz
- Lime Juiceoptional4 oz
Makes ~64 oz Β· est. 5.3% ABV
Directions
- 1Stir the mango puree, rum, pineapple juice, simple syrup, and lime juice together until fully blended.
- 2Confirm the mix sits at or below about 20 percent alcohol, then pour it into one tank of the Slushi Twist between the fill lines.
- 3Set that tank to a colder setting of about 6 temperature bars, since alcohol lowers the freezing point, and let it churn for roughly 55 minutes.
- 4Run a non-alcoholic tropical base in the second tank so the adults and kids are served from one machine.
- 5When the boozy tank reads ready, dispense on its own or twist it with the second tank for a two-tone cup.
- 6Serve to guests 21 and older and keep the tank topped up.
Tips
- Fill the Slushi bowl with your mango, rum, pineapple juice, and simple syrup mixture at room temperature, then let the machine do the work for 20 to 60 minutes until it reaches slush consistency.
- If your slush is too thin after 45 minutes, it may need another 10 to 15 minutes of churning, or you added too much juice relative to the rum and syrup ratio.
- Taste the liquid base before pouring it into the machine so you can adjust sweetness or rum strength without stopping the cycle.
Variations
- Swap white rum for dark rum or coconut rum for a deeper tropical flavor and different color.
- Use fresh lime juice instead of some of the pineapple juice for a tangier, more citrusy version.
FAQ
- Can I use frozen mango chunks instead of mango puree?
- No, the Slushi machine only works with liquid. Stick with mango puree or blend fresh mango into a smooth puree before pouring into the bowl.
- Why isn't my mixture freezing into slush after an hour?
- The machine needs enough sugar and alcohol to freeze properly. Check that you're using simple syrup and rum in the right proportions, and make sure the machine's freezing unit is cold and working.
- Can I make this without rum for a non-alcoholic version?
- Yes, substitute the white rum with an equal amount of more pineapple juice or a bit more simple syrup to keep the sweetness and texture balanced.
- How long can I keep the finished slush in the machine?
- Enjoy it right away while it's fresh from the tap. If left sitting in the machine, it will start to separate or refreeze unevenly after a couple of hours.
