Kombucha Slush

Honestly didn't expect much from a Kombucha Slush, figured it'd be a health-kick experiment, but my kid drank half of mine before I could stop her. Pour sweetened kombucha straight into the Ninja Slushi and it freezes into a fizzy, tangy slush that's lighter than a soda slush and a little funky in a good way. The fizz mostly mellows out, so you're left with a tart, slushy fruit drink. Use a kombucha that's actually sweetened, because the sugar is what lets it freeze; the bone-dry ones just stay liquid and stubborn. Surprisingly good, no booze required.

Ingredients

  • Sweetened Kombucha64 oz

Makes ~64 oz

Directions

  1. 1Pre-chill the kombucha to help speed up the freezing process.
  2. 2Pour the kombucha directly into the Slushi container.
  3. 3Select the SLUSH setting and adjust the temperature control down to 1 bar.
  4. 4Run the machine for 30 minutes, then dispense immediately.

Tips

  • Pour kombucha directly into the slushi bowl at room temperature - the machine will chill and churn it into the perfect texture in 20-60 minutes.
  • If your slush isn't scoopable after an hour, your kombucha might be too carbonated; try letting it sit uncapped for 30 minutes before pouring to release some fizz.
  • Start checking the consistency around 20 minutes in; you can stop early if you prefer a thinner slush or let it run longer for a denser texture.

Variations

  • Swap in ginger kombucha for a spicy kick, or use mango kombucha for tropical flavor.
  • Add a splash of fresh juice (apple, cranberry, or lemon) to the kombucha before pouring for extra taste depth.

FAQ

Can I use plain kombucha instead of sweetened?
You can, but sweetened kombucha churns into slush better since the sugar helps create that scoopable texture. Plain kombucha may stay thinner.
Why didn't my slush freeze or scoop properly?
High carbonation can prevent proper churning, so try degassing your kombucha a bit first. Also make sure you're waiting the full 45-60 minutes for best results.
How long will kombucha slush keep in the freezer?
Store it in an airtight container for up to a week, though it's best enjoyed fresh within a few days. It may get icy over time.
Can I make a lighter, less sweet slush?
Pour half sweetened kombucha and half unsweetened kombucha or plain sparkling water into the bowl for a lighter version that still churns into slush.
