Patriotic Red, White, and Blue Layered Slushy

Made this Patriotic Red, White, and Blue Layered Slushy for our Fourth of July cookout and my nephew genuinely gasped at the three layers, which made the extra effort worth it. The Blue Hawaiian, piña colada, and strawberry run separately through the Ninja Slushi, then you stack them gently in a clear cup. Texture is proper slushy, not crunchy ice, and the rum keeps it loose enough to layer clean. Pour slowly over the back of a spoon so the colors don't muddy into purple sludge. Spike-optional, but the spiked version is strictly for the grown-ups.

Directions

  1. 1Blue Layer: Combine 2.25 oz Blue Hawaiian mix, 11.5 oz water, and 2.25 oz white rum. Run on SPIKED SLUSH until frozen. Pour evenly into the bottom of three clear glasses and place in a freezer.
  2. 2Rinse the Slushi container thoroughly with warm water.
  3. 3White Layer: Combine 2.5 oz Piña Colada mix, 10.75 oz water, and 2.75 oz white rum. Run on SPIKED SLUSH. Slowly pour this layer over the blue layer in the glasses to avoid color bleeding.
  4. 4Rinse the Slushi container thoroughly with warm water again.
  5. 5Red Layer: Combine 2.25 oz Strawberry mix, 11.25 oz water, and 2.5 oz white rum. Run on SPIKED SLUSH.
  6. 6Slowly pour this final red layer over the white layer in the glasses. Garnish with a Firecracker ice pop and serve immediately.

Tips

  • Pour all three mixes and water directly into the Slushi bowl at once, then add rum just before starting the machine to keep the flavors balanced.
  • Check the consistency around the 45-minute mark; if it's still too liquid, give it another 10-15 minutes and the churn will tighten it up into proper slush.
  • Use the tap to dispense into a chilled glass right from the machine so you get that smooth, scoopable texture at its best.

Variations

  • Swap the Blue Hawaiian for Margarita Man Tropical Mix if you want a more orange and pineapple forward flavor while keeping the red and white layers.
  • Use coconut rum instead of white rum for a richer, creamier taste that plays better with the Piña Colada layer.
  • Cut the water by a quarter cup and add the juice of one fresh lime to brighten up all three layers without affecting the freeze time.

FAQ

Can I use less rum or skip it entirely?
You can reduce it to 3 ounces, but going below that or removing it entirely will make the slush freeze too fast and turn icy rather than smooth. The rum helps keep the texture scoopable.
Why is my slush still too liquid after an hour?
Check that your Slushi bowl is seated properly in the machine and that it's on a level, cool surface. If the room is very warm, it may take closer to the full 60 minutes; just give it more time to churn.
Can I make this ahead and store it?
The Slushi works best served right after it finishes churning. If you need to store it, keep it in a covered container in the freezer for up to a day, though you may need to scoop and let it soften a few minutes before serving.
What if I don't have all three mixes on hand?
You can use two of the three mixes and just double the water for one of them, but you'll lose the patriotic layers; the flavor will still be good, just different.
